The Pro Bono Students Canada Project matches law students with eligible non-profit organisations to provide pro bono legal services under the supervision of a lawyer. Alternatively, students may be matched with individual lawyers requiring assistance with pro bono files. PBSC does not provide direct assistance to individuals. This project began as a chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada, a national network of over 400 law students at 16 Canadian law schools, and became a project of Student Legal Services in 2001. Volunteers involved with the project continue to consult regularly with the offices of Pro Bono Students Canada.

What are the objectives of the Pro Bono Students Canada Project?

For Students:

• to instill a pro bono work-ethic
• to assist law students in assessing viable career options

For Community Organisations:

• to provide pro bono legal services to communities and organisations in need of better access to legal information
• to provide public interest groups with highly skilled and committed volunteers

For Lawyers:

• to provide student assistance on pro bono files
• research
• legal writing
